Death is the permanent and irreversible cessation of a player’s participation on Legendary Hardcore. Upon dying, a player cannot respawn and is immediately banned from the server.
As of the 2nd of July 2025, 2,152 player deaths have been recorded, with the average lifetime of a player being 6.4 hours. The shortest life was that of Darix075, who died from a burning zombie after just 9 seconds on the 1st of April 2025. Players are generally most vulnerable during the first hour of playtime where they are at the highest risk of dying to hostile mobs or environmental hazards.
Cause of Death
Cause of death can broadly be classified as being the consequence of mobs, environment or other players.
Death by Mob
Roughly half of player deaths are caused by hostile mobs. Death by skeleton is the most common mob-related death- particularly during the first hour of playtime when players may not yet have crafted a shield. As playtime increases, creeper deaths become more frequent with almost all other mob-deaths diminishing. Mobs that inhabit the nether are more likely to kill players between their first and second hour of playtime- presumably during their first trip to the nether. 1,250 players have been killed by mobs.

Death by Environment
Environmental deaths are also more likely to occur during early playtime. Falling, drowning and burning make up the majority of environmental deaths. 750 players have died due to environmental hazards.

Death by Player
138 players have been killed in player versus player (PVP) combat- making up just 7% of deaths. The vast majority of PVP deaths appear to have been opportunistic rather than premeditated. There is one recorded instance of a battle involving multiple combatants, where three players were killed in a small conflict near spawn.

Demographics
Certain player groups experience a greater risk of overall and early-game mortality.
Platform
On the 9th of June 2025, Bedrock Edition support was introduced to the server. Bedrock players, who can join from a range of devices, are identified by a period at the start of their name. Some Java players have expressed a belief that Bedrock players are less experienced or skilled at the game, and more likely to be killed.

Spoken Language
Although English remains the primary language spoken on the server, players from many regions play and communicate in a variety of languages. Since late May 2025, a large Portuguese-speaking population has formed- largely comprised of Brazilian players. Early-game mortality is significantly lower among Portuguese-speaking players, potentially as a result of organised recruitment into factions such as The Brazilian Pirates.
35% of players have never spoken on the server, either by choice or because they were killed before getting the chance.

Legacy
Upon dying, a player’s head is placed at their last position in the world. The player head contains information on the name of the player, how they died and the date of death. Some communities have established graveyards to commemorate the dead.
