New player charity is a traditional service on LHC, to give out starter gear to new joined players, to prevent their certain death.
Appearience
New joined players are commonly /msg-ed or asked in public chat if they required help. If they accept, most commonly they /msg or naively leak their coords in public chat. The benefactor comes, spends usually a prepared shulker with basic gear usually enough to be able to focus on running far from spawn and setup a base rather than needing to risky grind for basic tools and stuff.
Contents of a Starter Kit
Starter kits most commonly contain the following items:
- Food (pumpkin pies, meat, etc.)
- Full armor (commonly iron, maybe diamond)
- Tools (axe, sword, shovel commonly of iron)
- Iron (maybe 16 blocks of iron, depends on the charity service)
- Maybe a starter guide (e.g. W starter Guide by Pannekoek15NL)
- and more...
Charity Groups
Usually benefactors act in groups. Notably Legion of Concordia has players around spawn that are ready to gear up new commers.
Charity Scam
With the ability to get the coords of new joined player through charity, player killers began to abuse this tradition to gain more kills on their name. Players like Xx_Lug_xX asked in /msg new players if they want a starter kit, got their coords, and killed the player on arrival. Since all that happens in /msg without knowledge of other long standing players on LHC, it is difficult to estimate the real impact on player kills through charity scams. Most cases are speculations through questions like "is XYZ trustable? He said he could deliver me a starter kit".
