The Potato Anomaly
The Potato Anomaly is an anomaly within the average statistics of the game, which shows that players with the word potato in their name tend to reach 24 hours of playtime slightly more than the average.
Statistics
As of 08 August 2026, only approximately 3.5279% of all players have reached 24 hours of playtime.
Comparing this with players named Potato, it shows that 14 players with a Potato Name have joined the server
And as of 08 August 2026, 5 of these 14 players have survived past 24 hours.
These players are:
(The player StressedPotatoes is at 23.58 hours of playtime, which is close, but not past the 24 hour mark. However, they are still alive and can pass 24 hours)
After turning these stats to a percent, the result is that approximately 35.7143% players with the word potato in their names reach 24 hours of playtime, which is an increase of about x10.1234.
These statistics were sourced using Truncated Player Statistics, and there may be Potato Names that have less than 2 hours of playtime that were omitted from the page that would skew the result
Deaths
Despite being about 10.1234 times more likely to survive past 24 hours than the average player, players with a Potato Name tend to die more than the average player does.
On average, 52.9474% of all players in Legendary Hardcore have died.
Out of 14 players with a Potato Username, 10 have died, which is a percent value of about 71.4296%
Comparing these statistics with the average, it shows that Potato Usernames are about 1.3490 times more likely to die than the average player.
(This is with including PotatoForeverYAY's ban from the server as a death, excluding it would change the percent value to about 64.2857%, and show that Potato Usernames are 1.2141 times more likely to die.)
These statistics were sourced using Truncated Player Statistics, and there may be Potato Names that have less than 2 hours of playtime that were omitted from the page that would skew the result
Potential Causes
The Potato Anomaly could be caused by multiple factors, including
- Minecraft Content Creators making content about potatoes which influences players including more skilled players who consume this content to use a potato username
(Examples include Technoblade, iswho, and aCookieGod)
- Minecraft updates centering around potatoes influencing more experienced players since only players who have played Minecraft for enough time have heard about them
(The only example of this is the April Fool's snapshot 24w14potato)
Despite these possible causes, The Potato Anomaly is most likely a coincidence in player statistics.
