Dissonance is a multi-player Minecraft server. It is a spin-off server to Legendary Hardcore. Dissonance is a survival server, with a modified progression system. Players progress in "ages," and progression unlocks access to better tools and gear in-game. Unlike Legendary Hardcore, Dissonance is not hardcore. Upon dying, players are sent to purgatory for 30 seconds, but beyond that, the server does not harshly penalize dying.
Progression
Progression in Dissonance is split into ages, which as of July 2026 are Stone, Copper, Iron, and Diamond, with more ages planned. Progression through each age involves completing quests, both Vanilla, such as making a full set of tools, and custom, like completing missions for NPCs.
Stone
New players begin in the Stone Age and are unable to mine ingots like iron or copper. Unique to Dissonance, cobblestone must first be smelted in a furnace to be usable. The Stone Age quests include crafting a set of stone tools, a bundle, and a bow, among others. The Stone boss, which must be killed in order to progress into the Copper Age, is the Stone Golem, which spawns minions upon being attacked. The Stone Golem spawns randomly near players within 3000 blocks of spawn.
Copper
Once the Stone Age is completed, players unlock the ability to mine and use copper. Crafting a blast furnace, smoker, smoker, and full sets of copper tools and armor are the quests to progress past this age. Blast furnaces are made not with iron, but with copper, allowing players to make them despite being unable to mine copper in this Age. The boss for the Copper Age is the Mush Brute (also called the Mush King). Mush Brutes spawn on Mushroom Islands, as do other types of unique hostile mobs.
Iron
The Iron Age is where the Dissonance quests truly begin, and it is the introduction of many NPCs at Dawn City and beyond. The basic quests are to create a set of armor and tools, much like previous Ages, and a shield. There are 4 unique questlines in the Iron Age, referred to as Eyes: Corrupted Eye, Rogue Eye, Undead Eye, and Black Eye. All 4 quests involve speaking to NPCs at Dawn City, who then send players on journeys to kill enemies, retrieve items, and more. Each questline includes a custom boss, along with unique mobs, mechanics, and more.
Diamond
The Diamond Age is the newest of the Ages and is still being developed. Aside from tools, armor, and crafting an enchanting table, the Age includes an Eye quest, called the Exotic Eye. The questline introduces the server's second major location: Pirate City, aka Newport.
Features
Dissonance involves a multitude of non-Vanilla features that both enhance the playing experience and provide challenges for players.
Mob Scaling
Naturally spawning mobs become more challenging the further out a player ventures, discouraging traveling too far from Dawn City early in the game. In addition, some mobs have unique attributes, like speed, resistance, or magical abilities, that make them more difficult to fight.
Transportation and Travel
Locations in Dissonance are often thousands of blocks away from each other, so there are some methods of simplifying journeys. In Pirate City and Dawn City, there is a Transportation Services NPC who will teleport players at no cost between the two locations. As a prerequisite to this, the NPC must be spoken to at a location before the teleport there is usable. In addition, a Dawn City Teleport Scroll is obtainable from the Oracle at spawn. The scroll uses 5 levels in exchange for teleporting the user to Dawn City. Furthermore, while not a traditionally obtainable item, server admins have been known to give out Dash Feathers, which provide their users with a burst of speed. The feathers will be obtainable through normal gameplay at a later date.
Item Mechanics
Some items act or are crafted in unusual ways. Blast furnaces, for example, use copper, not iron. Cobblestone must be smelted before being used. Food can only be cooked on a campfire or in a smoker, and ores can only be smelted in a blast furnace. Upon being placed, torches only last a few seconds, and will break, leaving a stick behind. Copper torches, however, are immune to this, and last indefinitely, as usual.
Custom Enchantments
The server includes a multitude of custom enchantments that are generally obtainable from unique structures. They include Photosynthesis, a light-based alternative for Mending, and Outreach, which, when worn on a chest plate, gives players the ability to interact with blocks further away.
