The Bedrock Curse, is a pretty recent term, first used by player [[TheAcidWitch13]] in early December 2025. However, the idea that bedrock players are alot more likely to die than other members is much older, dating back to the start of the server.

The Bedrock Curse refers to the belief that Bedrock Edition players are at a significantly higher risk of dying than Java Edition players. As of April 2026, 64% of Bedrock Edition players have died, compared to just 52% of Java Edition players. The term was coined by TheAcidWitch13 in December 2025.

Origins of the curse

First ever mention of the bedrock curse

Reasons

The Bedrock Edition of Minecraft has long been known to contain a considerable amount of bugs and glitches which can prove deadly on hardcore difficulty. Furthermore, console controllers are often seen as more limiting than their PC counterparts. The supposed young age of Bedrock players is also a common explanation used to justify their usually short life spans but this has yet to be proven by any concrete research.

Consequences

Over time has emerged the notion stating that bedrock players have a shorter life expectancy compared to Java players, with the large majority dying before their first hour on the server, in some cases, in only a few seconds or minutes.

Notable exceptions

Several Bedrock Edition players have proved to be the exception to the Bedrock Curse by living long lives. The most notable example of a player to 'break the curse' is .DiplexMold2023 who gained 197 hours of playtime between September 2025 and January 2026.

Another player to beat the curse was .G_A_D_Oytb, who was the first Bedrock player to obtain a full set of Netherite gear (including a Netherite hoe), all mined and crafted entirely by himself. He also held the record for the longest survival time among Bedrock players, with 130 hours, until it was later surpassed by .DiplexMold2023. Unfortunately, .G_A_D_Oytb died due to a bug in which his Totem of Undying failed to activate during an elytra fall.
